The Nidek OPD pictured here, measures several important ocular parameters that help determine your eyeglass and contact lens prescription. It takes a picture of your pupil size in dim and bright light. It makes a topographical map of your cornea. It not only estimates your eyeglass prescription, but it also measures what cannot be corrected with eyeglasses, and may be corrected with custom contacts, or custom LASIK.
We will carefully examine your eyes for cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Some of the other equipment we may use is as follows:
Visual Field Tester
This instrument carefully measures the eyes ability to detect light in different areas of your visual field. After it collects the data, it will statistically compare your data to an internal database to determine if damage to your field of vision has occurred from glaucoma or another disease. This instrument can detect problems years before you ever knew you had a problem seeing.
Pachymeter
This instrument uses ultrasound to measure the thickness of your cornea in microns. We use this for patients who are contemplating LASIK surgery, or patients who may have glaucoma. Recent studies have shown that patients with thin corneas have a higher risk of glaucoma. |

Cirrus HD-OCT
The Cirrus OCT by Zeiss is a scanning laser that provides our doctors with three-dimensional, high-definition images of the retina and cornea. These scans allow us to measure the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer or the macula with precision. We acquired the Cirrus OCT to help our doctors diagnose glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other retinal conditions earlier to improve patient prognosis.

FDT
 FDT by Zeiss uses Frequency Doubling Technology to screen a patient's visual field for weakness. This test can detect vision loss due to a tumor of the brain, tumor of the eye, macular degeneration, or glaucoma.
